“Typical of many paintings made direct from some of the most interesting models” who sat for Tennent in the mid-1920s, this painting’s geometric features evoke the styles of Picasso and Cézanne, whose works she had encountered as a student in Paris. A similar work, titled Hawaiian Pattern, caused a sensation when exhibited at the Honolulu Academy in 1928; pleased critics dubbed it her “most interesting style” to date.
